1: Gailey’s Breakfast Cafe

220 East Walnut Street

This former old-fashioned drugstore in Downtown Springfield has called its current Walnut Street location home since 1942. Now a full-service cafe, Gailey’s is the place to enjoy a unique dining experience along with a sizable helping of local history. Their specials include a hearty Breakfast Mac n’ Cheese and the Ozark Benedict featuring biscuit, sausage and scrambled eggs smothered in gravy. Other favorites include their giant Home Fry Skillets and the Seville omelet featuring three fluffy eggs with sausage, tomato, peppers and other goodies.

2: Early Bird Breakfast Pub

1717 East Cherokee Street

The Queen City’s original breakfast pub features a full-service bar with festive morning drinks, along with a menu full of delightful options for all ages. For something unique, order one of their Bird’s Nests. With names like The Cardinal, The Robin and The Eagle, each one features a generous helping of delicious ingredients, all piled on top of a fresh puff pastry. Other favorites include a variety of omelets, breakfast tacos, breakfast mac and cheese and pancakes. Vegetarian options are also available.

3: Sleepy Opossum Cafe

1427 East Cherry Street

Nestled in the quaint Rountree neighborhood near the Missouri State campus, Sleepy Opossum Cafe is the place to wake up to quality ingredients from local farms. This vegetable-forward restaurant offers a creative seasonal menu featuring original quiches and hashbrown bowls with a side of fresh greens. You can also order breakfast sandwiches, tacos and burritos, and outdoor seating offers a leisurely morning experience when the weather is good.

4: Van Gogh’s Eeterie

334 East Commercial Street

This locally-owned restaurant on Historic Commercial Street serves up one-of-a-kind Dutch-style fare – including breakfast all day. Enjoy Pannenkoeken (also known as pancakes) topped with delicious sweet or savory ingredients. You can also experience their unique take on Liege Wafels (waffles), Wentelteefjes (French toast) and Morning in Den Haag (egg scramble with sauteed mushrooms, tomatoes, cheese, arugula, skillet crisps and toast). And be sure to start your day on a festive note with a refreshing drink from their full bar. You can also order gluten-free and vegan options.

5: Billy Gail’s

Three locations in Ozark and Branson

When it’s time to fill up on a satisfying breakfast a little south of Springfield, head on down to Billy Gail’s in Ozark or Branson. This breakfast-all-day favorite features a variety of five-egg omelets with hash browns and your choice of bread. Other specialties include catfish and eggs, burritoes, biscuits and breakfast sandwiches. Those with a morning sweet tooth will enjoy their selection of French toast and specialty pancakes. 

6: Farm House Cafe

1537 North Glenstone Avenue

Want to start your day on the right foot before heading off to work? Drop in for the Early Bird Menu from 7 to 9 a.m. on weekdays at the Farm House Cafe! Enjoy classic omelets and 99-cent coffee in a comfortable atmosphere with friendly service. Other favorites include their cinnamon French toast, dollar cakes and a variety of basic egg breakfasts with hash browns, bacon or sausage and choice of bread.

7: Druff’s

331 Park Central East

Wake up to mouth-watering breakfast sandwiches in this cozy diner in the heart of downtown Springfield. Options include the Breakfast Mahomes featuring a beef patty, egg and bacon along with pepper jack, cheddar and 15k sauce on sourdough. You’ll also love their breakfast bowls with over easy eggs and a generous helping of other delicious ingredients. If a basic breakfast is more your style, they’ve also got waffles, French toast and biscuits and gravy. Vegetarian items are available.

8: Ziggie’s Cafe

Two locations at 1772 East Sunshine and 2515 North Glenstone

This long-time Springfield fixture fills you up with a delicious menu of Big Breakfasts. Bring your appetite and chow down on The Hearty Breakfast with corn beef hash and three eggs, or The Southern Breakfast featuring a hand-breaded pork tenderloin smothered in homemade sausage gravy alongside three eggs. 9: Cedar’s South

This family-owned Ma and Pa diner features an award-winning menu that has earned the Best Breakfast Award from Best of the Ozarks. Enjoy comfort food favorites in a down-home atmosphere, including classic egg breakfasts, egg sandwiches and homemade biscuits and gravy. You’ll also enjoy their Belgian waffles, English muffins and French toast.

10: Scrambler’s

Home of the Four-Egg Omelet, this family-owned restaurant has been serving up breakfast with a smile on Springfield’s south side since opening their doors in 1997. The namesake omelets are made to order with a generous helping of breakfast potatoes on the side. You can wake up to great skillets featuring chicken fried steak, corn beef hash, fresh veggies and more. Other popular items include their pancakes, waffles and benedicts.

11: RISE

105 Park Central Square

This downtown restaurant and coffee shop offers fresh ingredients from local farmers in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Enjoy hearty breakfast bowls and classic breakfasts all made with local, pasture-raised eggs along with potatoes and local ham. You can order a mouth-watering breakfast sandwich on a house-baked brioche bun. Their menu also features a variety of pancakes, toasts and waffles.

12: JW’s Kitchen

Start your day with something new at this local restaurant at Farmers’ Park. Their seasonal menu features a rotating selection of creative market specials, such as mushrooms on toast with poached eggs, cinnamon roll French toast and fun brunch burritos. You can also order an assortment of classic American breakfast favorites all made with an English flair.
