The song had it right—in Springfield, it is fun to stay at the YMCA. The city offers two locations: one on the south side and another in the heart of downtown. When you join, not only do you get access to all of their fitness equipment, you also get childcare while you exercise, free workout classes and reciprocal membership at all YMCAs across the country. Great habits start early in life, and the Y is here to help your kids, too. There are dozens of programs for the kiddos, including a before- and after-school program, a School Days Out camp, summer camps and youth sports.

Home of longtime CrossFit affiliate, CrossFit Springfield, you can join this crew for a WOD (that’s Workout of the Day for those new to the CrossFit world) and work up a sweat with one of their hardcore routines. No matter where you’re located in town, there’s a family center near you with dozens of amenities. Run by the Park Board, the Chesterfield Family Center, Dan Kinney Family Center and Doling Family Center each provide fitness classes, pools, gyms, child care and more. With a membership, you can visit any of the family centers for your workout or preferred recreational activity. Wanting to get in on a group workout?
