Mercy Ranking in the top 10 nationally for patient safety, Mercy is a hospital that prides itself on premier patient care and providing the best in medical technology. Mercy covers all the care a patient could need, from an annual physical and childbirth to treatment and surgery for various forms of cancer. The hospital is also a Level I Trauma & Burn center, Level III Neonatal ICU and offers a nationally-certified Stroke Center. CoxHealth Based in Springfield, CoxHealth has been providing health care to the southwest Missouri region since 1906. CoxHealth has six hospitals and over 80 clinics across the region, allowing them to reach patients in both rural and urban areas. For their most recent fiscal year, CoxHealth was proud to announce they provided nearly a billion dollars in economic contributions to the community through efforts like foundation grants, health professionals education and community outreach activities. Jordan Valley Community Health Center Jordan Valley Community Health Center is a Federally Qualified Health Center, helping to provide care to patients who may not otherwise be able to seek out medical care. A massive renovation and expansion in 2013 led to the facility being able to offer services like an urgent care, dental care, optometry, women’s health, a pharmacy and behavioral health services. Ozarks Community Hospital Ozarks Community Hospital focuses its efforts on being a safety-net healthcare provider, helping to provide the best possible care to a patient regardless of their income or insurance status. There are several clinics located throughout the region to ensure that all have access to a facility nearby, including more rural areas like Carthage and Mt. Vernon. Health Care Education Springfield has a strong presence of health care educational opportunities through area colleges: Missouri State University. With Master’s programs in Public Health, Health Administration and Health Promotion & Wellness Management, continuing your education in the health care industry is possible. If you would prefer to focus on developing your skills on the business side of medicine, consider getting your Master’s of Business Administration through their AACSB certified program. Additionally, MSU offers health care training in Nursing and Sports Medicine, as well as Physical and Occupational Therapy. Cox College. Connect yourself to one of the largest local health care providers while earning your degree. Cox College offers a number of undergraduate health degrees, along with Master’s degrees in Nursing and Occupational Therapy. Southwest Baptist University. Known for its nursing program affiliated through Mercy, Southwest Baptist University offers Master’s degrees in Nursing Administration and Nurse Education to those who wish to further their education in the field. University of Missouri Medical School. After noting a shortage of physician residency programs in the state, the University of Missouri worked to create a residency program in Springfield where students spend their last two years of medical school with the Springfield Clinical Campus and studying at local hospitals. This program aims to provide an additional 300 physicians for the state over time.
